It must be “Bring Your Kid To Work” week, because I’m sitting across from the 4th child under the age of 10 this week to be spending an entire day in the office. I certainly cannot think of any better way to spend a day of summer vacation when the weather is beautiful than to hang out with Aunt/Mom/Grandma in the gray on gray cube farm that is the state government office environment. If I were a 9 year old, I would stare longingly out my window, hoping that I’d be so lucky enough to eavesdrop on conversations about health care while occupying one of the most uncomfortable chairs that man ever dared to create, all the while playing Solitaire repeatedly.
The young lady across the way has made her billionth phone call ($$) from the cube of a vacationing co-worker. Listening to, “Hi mommy, how are you?” every twenty minutes is almost as rad as hearing, “Hey Grandma!” twice a day from the grown man who sits behind me.
I am not complaining, though. The cafe downstairs has delicious oatmeal.

I drew this for you.
My boss said her name should be Sunny, but that’s just boring. So I named her Penny. Much better.

The big conference room was reserved because many people were expected to join us. Look at how quickly it filled up! It was a rough meeting!

This one was started during a meeting, but finished up later, at my desk. It’s not very creative, but that’s all you can really expect of me during at least 9 hours of the day. In case you can’t figure it out, it’s my badge for work. Now, don’t you go stealing it and trying to be me.
In not-too-exciting-for-you news, I was finally moved down to the 5th floor. Fewer Overheards, but more of my sanity.
With the elections over, the commercials have finally stopped. I can’t even tell you what a relief that is. Here’s a related Overheard that I didn’t use, because even though it was funny, the details of who said it, and where it was overheard were not. I prefer actual locations rather than commentary. Not that I don’t appreciate the cynicsm, but let’s keep to the point of “where.” But regardless, here it is:
dumb lazy mom: I’m so sick of all the political ads on tv. I hope they stop before Christmas.

Man, not having anyone around to go to lunch with is pretty lame. I sat by myself in the lobby at a table and did some people watching while I ate my mediocre grilled chicken sandwich for the price of a great grilled chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, that was not very exciting. The chicken sandwich or the people watching.
It would have been a great opportunity to draw another awesome picture, but I forgot to bring my fancy drawing utensils. (ball point pen and a pad of paper I jacked from the supply shelf.) Maybe later this afternoon I’ll put together another one of my masterpieces.
Oh yeah, all of my art can be purchased. I accept money orders and cash, baby. Just contact me!

Today, during a not-so-brief interruption in functionality of an important-to-my-job website, I had some time to kill. Taylor suggested I draw a picture. A picture of a mushroom person being eaten by a unicorn while sitting at his desk. The first drawing is what I came up with, but as you can see, the unicorn wasn’t a success. So, to compensate for my shortcomings, Taylor drew up a pretty nice unicorn… while on a conference call. ha ha. Whatever, it was his last Monday at DHS.
